Tesco in Ashtead

  • Local Issues: Tescos for Ashtead?

Tesco have exhibited plans for a supermarket on the site of the Esso garage in The Street. They beat Waitrose to the site and it seemed most people were in favour of a Waitrose shop. Is it that we don't want a supermarket, or we don't want Tescos? The purchase is now a 'done deal' so there's no use bemoaning the loss of Waitrose, but do we want a supermarket in Ashtead or not? Will it encourage trade in The Street like in Craddocks Parade? Will the APMH suffer through lack of parking? Will the Woodfield Road junction become a nightmare? Comments please.

A Questionnaire is now available to complete on the Residents' web site www.ashteadresidents.org.uk. Let us have your views to help us to represent local opinion and to consider what representations to make to MVDC.

Parsons Mead

  • Planning: Parsons Mead
An application has been submitted for 103 new houses on this old school site. What do you feel about this? The Association has objected. Have you submitted your objections/support to MVDC Planning Department?

Street Lighting

  • Highways: Street Lights
A resident has complained at the inadequate street lighting in Woodfield Road, the footbridge and Links Road. She feels unsafe at night walking home from the station and the recent incident, although unrelated, has increased these concerns. EDF Energy has a very poor track record in dealing with street lights. What should be done?

Proposed Hotel for Barnett Wood Lane

  • Planning: New Hotel For Ashtead?
Does Ashtead need a 21 bedroom hotel? There are hotels in Epsom, Epsom Downs and Leatherhead so should we have one in a village which may result in increased traffic, noise and pollution affecting residents, not to mention the fact that the site is on a route used by many schoolchildren on their way to local schools. Comments?
